Circuit of International Fine Art Fairs
Published July 27th, 2007
Tonight is the opening of the first Salzburg World Fine Art Fair, which runs through Aug. 4 in that Baroque Austrian city’s historic center, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Thirty-one European dealers of antiquities, furniture, fine art and jewelry are participating, and ticket proceeds will go toward restoration of the Kollegienkirche, the beloved Baroque church designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in the 1690s.
The fair is timed to coincide with the Salzburg Festival of music, which already attracts an international audience. The fair’s organizer is ArtCultureStudio, a Swiss company that puts on the Moscow Fine Art Fair. The Salzburg fair is being staged in the 17th-century archbishop’s residence where Mozart gave a concert at the age of 6.
